Apr 08 2009: iMyst Near Completion

QUOTE (Cyan Worlds Inc @ April 8 2009, 11:13 AM)
Myst for the iPhone & iPod touch is nearing completion. Everyone involved in the development and testing agrees that it’s a magical feeling to have the highest-quality, original version of Myst in the palm of your hand. And “highest quality original version” means it’s a large app - more like buying a movie than a song.

Mar 19 2009: More of Myst IV's realtime 3D past revealed! - Never before seen images and videos!

Thanks to some expert searching, Jevasi has managed to find the portfolio of one of the members of the Dreamforge team that were making a realtime 3D Myst IV before it was cancelled 8-9 years ago. The project then passed to Ubisoft and they decided to start afresh and not use the old Dreamforge designs for what became Myst IV: Revelation.

Feb 28 2009: Exclusive! Unique Haven Storyboards! - Found in the dusty archives...

While looking through my Myst archives I stumbled upon some unique concept storyboard pages sent to me years ago by Genevieve Lord. Shortly after receiving them I have scanned the original hand-drawn pages, but somehow they were never officially released anywhere in the community. Hopefully you will enjoy this small addition to the history of Revelation's creation.
All eleven pages are available in the Myst Obsession Gallery.

Sep 25 2008: Mysteriacs gets exclusive rights for Myst movie

Today it was announced on the Myst movie blog that the Mysteria Film group gets the exclusive rights to making a film of the "Book of Ti'ana" from Cyan Worlds Inc. The decision was made after scrutinizing a part of the script written so far.

QUOTE
TUESDAY - SEPTEMBER 23, 2008 - 6:04 P.M.

Rand informs the Mysteriacs that he has read the script and is completely blown away.  After stating that he “absolutely loves it”, he goes on to say that the option for the rights to Myst are now being offered to us free of charge.  We will now have the exclusive right to develop and shop a film project derived from the Myst franchise.  This decision transforms Project Passage from a project endorsed by Cyan Worlds to the “Official Myst Film”.

Rand pledges Cyan’s full support and backing as we move ahead.

Sep 13 2008: DS Fanboy features Myst DS - "Bury the Shovelware" column

DS Fanboy has a column featuring Myst DS, and despite the title, it isn't all that negative, and provides a look into the perspective of someone experiencing Myst for the first time:

QUOTE
Retro games can be classic in their own right. Plenty of younger gamers are discovering the joys of titles originally released many years -- even decades -- before they were born. Those titles stand the test of time and are likely to be enjoyed by future generations in much the same way that classical music is still heard and appreciated today.

May 21 2008: Wired slams Myst DS port

Popular technology news website Wired has written an extremely negative review for the recently released port of the original Myst for the Nintendo DS.

The review focuses on the poor port, rather than the content of the game, which is praises.
QUOTE
The original CD-ROM version of Myst will always hold a special place in my gaming heart. I spent countless hours staring at its beautiful images, wracking my brain for the solution to its devious puzzles. I look on it with the forgiving fondness that only a distance of many years can provide, choosing to overlook its faults in favor of reminiscing about its joys.

I was excited to learn that this gem from my past had been given new life on the Nintendo DS. I looked forward to seeing my old friend again, so many years after we had last parted company. I was eager to revisit my Myst experiences, and curious to see how the game had weathered the jump from CD-ROM to DS.

I regret to inform you that it barely survived the journey.

May 19 2008: IGN reviews Myst DS - Questionable review, redeeming comments

IGN posted a review of Myst DS:

QUOTE
So now, looking back on Myst, it's hard to believe we let this game slide, and I for one refuse to let it slide again. These gameplay mechanics were boring and outdated 14 years ago, and even the nostalgia of my first adventure game experience doesn't make Myst palatable. The puzzles, due to their lack of direction (or indication they're even puzzles) become a series of random clicks, hoping something happens. The environments are pretty but they're also completely stationary.

While the review was very negative, the posted comments have a more positive feel, and call out the review's author on his apparent misunderstanding and dislike of the game, on any platform:

QUOTE
in the age of criminally short and easy button mashers and dry-as-bones rpgs that play more like spreadsheets, i think it's pretty sad that a writer for a widely respected media juggernaut like ign can't slow down for seven hours to solve myst.
